A Brazilian Firm Whose Practice Is Cross-Border by Design

Carvalho Barros Advocacia Internacional was built around one kind of client: the person whose legal life crosses the Brazilian border. Most of our clients are outside Brazil — which is why every process in the firm assumes distance, time zones and documents that travel between legal systems.

The firm and the attorney

The firm

Carvalho Barros Advocacia Internacional

A Brazilian law firm with offices in Maceió and São Paulo, dedicated to private international law and cross-border tax matters. The firm serves individuals — not corporations — whose assets, families or plans connect Brazil to the rest of the world, with clients in more than 30 countries.

The attorney

Luiz Alberto de Carvalho Barros Filho

Attorney admitted to the Brazilian Bar Association (OAB/AL 7.530), with more than 20 years of experience in international law. His practice concentrates on the intersection of Brazilian tax law and private international law — the exact ground where most cross-border problems live.

Working language: written communication with the firm is conducted in English. For meetings and video calls, the firm arranges an interpreter at no additional cost — so nothing is lost between what you mean and what gets filed.

What working with us looks like

  • More than 200 clients advised, in more than 30 countries
  • Fully remote engagements — WhatsApp, e-mail and video calls, with documents exchanged digitally and legalized internationally when needed
  • Tax and legal analysis together: transactions, immigration and family matters planned with their Brazilian tax consequences in view
  • Clear written proposals with defined scope before any engagement — you know what is being done, by whom and for what
  • Physical offices in Maceió — AL and São Paulo — SP for clients who prefer, or need, to meet in person in Brazil
